We Need Your Help
In September 2013, the MacKenzie Art Gallery presented 7: Professional Native Indian Artists Inc., a ground-breaking exhibition of works by one of Canada’s most important artist alliances. The MacKenzie Art Gallery wants to continue to share this story -- but we need your help!
The award-winning book, 7: Professional Native Indian Artists Inc., is now out of print. Despite the incredible success of the exhibition, the story of the PNIAI, Canada's first self-organized First Nations artist collective, is still a little-known part of Canada's history – and we need your help to spread the word! We believe that every Canadian should know--and be inspired by – this story and the memory of these artists. Imagine if even more students and visitors to public art galleries and libraries had access to this incredible story and artwork.
Your support will make it possible for the MacKenzie to print an expanded edition of this book – featuring artwork by members of the PNIAI and a new essay by renowned Canadian artist Duane Linklater.
We will distribute hundreds of free copies to schools, libraries, and public art galleries across Canada and beyond. With a growing waiting list, hundreds of additional copies will be made available for sale, with the proceeds supporting the MacKenzie’s renowned exhibitions and innovative public programs.
The MacKenzie must raise a total of $60,000 for this important project. We’ve reached the first tier of our overall goal! Help us reach the finish line!
Since its launch at the MacKenzie, the exhibition has traveled across the country with stops at Winnipeg Art Gallery, Kelowna Art Gallery, McMichael Canadian Art Collection (Kleinburg, ON), Art Gallery of Windsor, and Art Gallery of Alberta – engaging with and touching the lives of more than 88,000 people along the way. Your gift will positively impact the lives of generations to come. Should we exceed our goal, additional funds raised will be used to help distribute even more free copies of this book across Canada!
Thank you for your support!
